Once again, we are partnering with the St. Louis Audubon Society to present the fourth annual St. Louis Native Plant Garden Tour on Saturday, June 16, 2018.
This self-guided tour of residential gardens in St. Louis focuses on Dogtown, Richmond Heights, Shaw, and Tower Grove locations this year, highlighting spring blooming plants. See examples of:
- Sun and shade gardening
- Wet sites and dry sites
- Bird and butterfly friendly gardens
We hope the Tour will inspire you with landscaping ideas on how to use native plants for improving your outdoor environment for the benefit of yourself, others, and the bees, birds, butterflies, and other wildlife that will be attracted to your yard.

Volunteers Needed
As in past years, we will rely on volunteer help at each of the homes on the day of the Tour. Review the volunteer responsibilities and benefits on the volunteer signup page and just submit the Volunteer Registration Form located on that page.
In addition to meeting people, getting to know people better, and the satisfaction of sharing native plants with others, volunteers receive a St. Louis Native Plant Garden Tour t-shirt and are able to visit the gardens for free during the half-day they are not volunteering. If you are interested, we encourage you to sign up early for the limited number of slots.
Volunteer Responsibilities the Day of the Tour
Arrive on time and check in with the homeowner(s):
- AM shift – 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
- PM shift – 12:15 to 4:00 p.m.
Receive and change into your 2018 St. Louis Native Plant Garden Tour t-shirt.
During each shift, we have two volunteer roles to fill – Greeters and Homeowner Assistants.
We are looking for volunteers for a single shift only, AM or PM, so that you are able to tour the gardens for free during the half day when you are not volunteering.
Greeter responsibilities:
- Station yourself near the best entry point, according to the homeowner.
- Welcome people.
- Check that each party/group has a Tour booklet (their “ticket”). If not, explain that advance registration was required. In the event they are a “relative, friend, or neighbor,” welcome them. You are not a policeman.
- Direct them to the garden entrance(s) or “route”, as identified by the homeowner.
Homeowner Assistant responsibilities:
- Help ID plants, species or beds, at the discretion of the homeowner.
- Provide any other help needed, according to the homeowner.
If you have any questions about this volunteer opportunity after reviewing the information on the volunteer signup page, please contact Cori Westcott at (636) 256-6893.
