by Erin Goss, Chairperson, Landscape Challenge Committee
On the morning of Sunday, May 19, 2024, Wild Ones volunteers alongside native garden designer, Maureen Keaveny, planted the winning St. Louis Wild One’s 2024 Landscape Challenge Garden.
Winning homeowners, John and Megan Grothman, have been actively engaged in honeysuckled removal and encouraging a native plant community in their neighborhood in Des Peres. Mostly sun with average to dry soil, this garden was designed with seasonal blooms and layering in mind and includes native species such as rose verbena (Glandularia canadensis), stiff aster (Ionactis linariifolia), and Mexican hat (Ratibida columnifera).
Thank you to our planting volunteers Tessa Wasserman, Julie Weiss, Karen Anderson, Bob Cejka, and Lori Stringer; and to the Landscape Challenge Grant Review Committee: Tessa Wasserman, Kevin Mowery, Sue Leahy, and Kathy Bildner.
Lastly, we’d like to thank our 2024 designer, Maureen Keaveny, and the Missouri Prairie Foundation for their generous support.
