Wild Ones Gatherings September 2020
Mallard Lake Native Plant Gardens at Creve Coeur Park
Wednesday, September 9th and Saturday, September 12th
60 attendees across the 2 dates
Our September Gatherings were held, for members only with social distancing and masks, at the Mallard Lake native plant gardens across from the Creve Coeur Lakehouse Bar & Grill in Creve Coeur Park off Creve Coeur Mill Rd.
We were originally scheduled to visit these gardens in May, but we had not yet figured out how to make Gatherings work with Covid-19 precautions. By continuing the effective logistics used at our June, July and August Gatherings, we felt confident that a Gathering at the Mallard Lake gardens would be safe.
Volunteers from Wild Ones St. Louis Chapter and St. Louis Audubon worked several days to do the needed weeding and other ‘editing’ necessary to get these gardens ready for the Gatherings. As they worked, they got many appreciative comments from passersby.
Members happily talked with and learned from the knowledgeable people posted at the three gardens.
North garden: Jeanne Cablish, the designer
Center garden: Mitch Leachman, St. Louis Audubon Society
South garden: Susan Orr (Wednesday) and Susie Van de Reit (Saturday), the designer
We encourage native plant gardeners to visit these gardens during the various seasons; especially those with sunny locations in their landscapes.
