St. Louis Chapter Featured in National Wild Ones Journal

by Marsha Gebhardt
President, Wild Ones St. Louis Chapter

Have you seen it?!  If you are a member of Wild Ones you recently received an email notice that “Your Wild Ones 2019 Summer Journal is here!”   If you are not a member, this publication is the best reason to become one, second only to supporting native plant landscaping locally and nationally.

In the Summer 2019 edition of the Wild Ones Journal there are three articles featuring events and people from the St. Louis chapter.

First, you come to a four-page spread showing and describing the beautiful garden of our very active board member, Sue Leahy

Next, this edition of the Wild Ones Journal features the ways we celebrated our Chapter’s 20th Anniversary, throughout 2018.  In her role as our chapter’s publicity/marketing chair, Sue Leahy submitted the article.

Editor’s Note: An anniversary is always a reason to celebrate. Here’s how one chapter celebrated the entire year for its 20th year milestone. Their activities and festivities should give your chapter ideas how you can celebrate an important Wild Ones anniversary.

The third piece from St. Louis Wild Ones, shared as inspiration for other chapters, is about our Circle of Support rack card.  The card explains the way four key organization support homeowners in native landscaping: Wild Ones, Shaw Nature Reserve, Bring Conservation Home/St. Louis Audubon, and GrowNative!.  It continues to be actively distributed by all four groups.

Other interesting and informative pieces in the summer edition include:

  •          Getting to know your Honorary Director – Doug Tallamy
  •          Artificial light at night poses a new threat for pollination
  •          Rearing Monarchs responsibly
  •         Tackling climate in our landscapes

Members of Wild Ones can access this professional and educational quarterly publication by logging into the Wild Ones’ members-only section and selecting “Online Wild Ones Journal”.  The viewing options are a “flipbook” which emulates turning the pages, or a pdf file.  You can save either or both formats to your computer.
