August 2019 Gathering Highlights

August 14th and 17th, 2019
Home of Kate Lovelady
Wednesday attendance: 33 Members and 8 Guests
Saturday attendance: 17 Members and 4 Guests

When Kate and her partner Bill bought their house in 2006, the small, sunny, dry city plot was fully landscaped with a miniature stream, pond and multiple beds of non-natives. Kate spent some time learning what was already there. In 2010 she joined Wild Ones.  Swapping out traditional plants for natives bit by bit helped Kate keep her project manageable and affordable.

This was a delightful small city garden with tons of diversity! Wildflower prairie beds, native shrubs, and a small pond with native wetland flowers provided a sense of peace and calm.  Sun in the front yard and shade in the back allowed all to experience what is possible in a small area!

A surprising gem in the back yard is the Unique garden shed which Kate started building shortly after she joined Wild Ones in 2013.

The star of our Saturday morning gathering was a cicada emerging from the nymph exoskeleton.
