Join us for our September gathering at Keysor Elementary School in Kirkwood.  Keysor earned the US National Green Ribbon School Award last year for sustainability, the highest honor a school can earn.

Wild Ones gave them a grant in 2017 to put a butterfly/bird garden in the front of the school.  Last year Keysor added a bubbler to this garden as part of their Green Schools Quest.  In addition to the front garden, they have numerous gardens in the back including a sensory garden, bird sanctuary, a prairie, food garden, 2 big MSD rain gardens and beehives.  They also have a solar-powered greenhouse (the K house) for STEM activities.

The school follows Project IDEA (imagine, discover, explore, adventure) to build sustainable and inclusive outdoor space.  Their mission is to have a living landscape schoolyard serve as an outdoor extension of the school with no steel or plastic structures.

This will be a great opportunity to see the role schools are playing in teaching youth about sustainability.  Don’t miss it!
