Wild Ones meeting

When

Saturday, Oct. 5
10:30 am

Where

Gordon Moore Park
College Ave and Park Rd, Alton, IL, 62018

Event Type

Tour of the Heartland Prairie, hosted by Nan and Neil Adams.  Bring a sack lunch.  Drinks and desserts will be provided by the hosts.

In partnership with the City of Alton, The Nature Institute (TNI) has actively managed the 27-acre Heartland Prairie, located on the north side of Gordon Moore Park, for more than 30 years. From the first planting by Sierra Club members in 1977 to current stewardship activities, the Heartland Prairie  Project continues to be a top priority of TNI and its dedicated volunteers. Boasting more than 150 native prairie plant species and harboring a large variety of grassland-dependent birds, Heartland gives visitors a glimpse into the past. TNI stewards use prescribed fire and other land management strategies to control invasive species and promote healthy tallgrass prairie ecosystems.

NOTE:
After the meeting, there will be a brainstorming/planning session to discuss the possible formation of a Wild Ones chapter in southern Illinois.  The meeting and discussion are open to the public, so members are encouraged to invite friends, and others with an interest in being a part of a new Wild Ones chapter.
