The Post Dispatch carried a wonderful story of William Knowles, who died recently at age 94, in the Saturday edition.
Long-time St. Louis Wild Ones members will remember visiting the property of William and Nancy Knowles in St. Charles County, usually when spring wildflowers were blooming.
On one occasion we cleared bush honeysuckle. I recall enjoying our brown bag lunches in their cabin while he told the story of going to Oslo to receive the Nobel Prize.
William Knowles left a wonderful legacy of scientific achievement that benefits all mankind. He also left a beautiful legacy to our region in that he and his wife Nancy donated the St. Charles County property to the parks department. Just a tremendous human being!
