Spring Seminar Series: All About Native Plants

by Marsha Gebhardt
President, Wild Ones St. Louis Chapter

The Partners for Native Landscaping (PNL) come together each year to present a program with the goal of inspiring and helping individuals to create gardens that are not only beautiful but are also habitats for native wildlife.   Wild Ones St. Louis Chapter has been a proud partner from its beginning in 2012.

This year, due to COVID-19, instead of an in-person workshop PNL has coordinated with St. Louis County Library’s Adult Programing to present a Spring Seminar Series via Zoom.  The Partners decided to use this unique opportunity to reach more traditional gardeners by emphasizing native plant gardening basics. BUT, there will also be lots for more experienced native plant gardeners who often appreciate refreshers and new ideas.  And, of course, there will be time for questions!

Opening the series, on March 10th, will be our own board member and outreach coordinator, Sue Leahy.  You will be inspired by her 12-year journey in native plant gardening.

Later, in April, chapter member James Faupel of the Litzsinger Road Ecology Center will discuss how Missouri’s native woody plants play a critical role in our ecosystem and how to incorporate them in your landscape.

Also go to the online March issue of the Gateway Gardener to see the PNL ad, other March events, and an article by Scott Woodbury – Naturalizing Native Plants Under Trees.

But wait!

If you’ve missed some of the classes or want to see them again, be sure to check out the St. Louis County Library’s Youtube Channel
